IDOC (part 1)

The 2020plan creates a bold vision to connect American business to global issues. But as they say, the devils in the details. At the core, is the concept that our government will provide a platform that convert’s these global issues into our business opportunities. This will be done through a newly created agency called the international department of commerce. IDOC.

Creating a new government agency isn’t an overnight task. The last agency created was homeland security and that was created hurriedly to respond to immediate threats predicted after 9/11. Let’s learn from that chapter and create IDOC from a position of vison rather than a position of reaction. That is the entire premise of the 2020plan. Getting ahead of the curve.

IDOC is the heart of the 2020plan and has three basic functions. It sources global opportunities, it creates the market place and it engages American business.

Here’s an image of how IDOC will function. Not a complicated model – actually so easy a congressman can put it together. Here’s how it works.

Each funnel is designed to reach the largest possible segment of its market. The world funnel is aimed at 200 plus countries that contain 7 billion people. The business funnel is aimed at our entire business community from major corporations down to the innovative guy in his garage. And in the middle is the heart of IDOC. It functions as a broker, a facilitator and a marketplace in connecting these two markets. It will act as a virtual home depot to the world offering all core four goods and services.

Through the global funnel, IDOC will send out teams of professionals including engineers, business professionals, health experts and humanitarians. Our teams will interview foreign government and business experts to learn about their conditions and most pressing needs. IDOC will not only collect data on their immediate issues but also educate and prepare them for the next 50 years. Just like us, we need them to have long term visions as well.

We know that many countries primary concerns are national safety. Our teams will discuss how many of their future threats will likely come from within their own borders. These include natural disasters, economic unrest, and lack of resources, including; energy, food and clean water. Also issues relating to health epidemics, terrorism and climate change. While weaponry and national defense systems will always be of major importance, the2020plan leaves those matters to our defense agencies. But it is important to note that the core four areas will likely have the most impact on a country’s future.

IDOC’s field teams will then return home with their findings and convert them into RFP’s, Requests for proposals. These will then be sent out the other side of IDOC to our business community through the virtual marketplace. It’s important to note that these opportunities will be publicly offered to all businesses not just large corporations. And lobbyists need not apply. It’s a win for our small business community which has been locked out of government opportunities for years and a win for our global customers who will get multiple solutions to their issues. Embracing our competitive spirit is another way of energizing the program and improving its results. The only way we become valuable to our customers is to become invaluable. And the only way to become invaluable is to be valuable. IDOC makes that connection possible.
